My Pet Photography Course

pet photography courses in uk professional photographer

Over the last few years, I have worked with major pet food brands such as Eukanuba, commissioned to do the marketing images for Pets at Home and my commercial dog photographs have featured in magazines such as Digital Photography Magazine and Country Life.

I decided to start my pet photography course so that others could capture happy memories with their pets. This workshop is for just eight people, meaning that I have the time to give each person one to one tuition. Despite the workshop focusing on dogs, the skills you learn can be transferred into other genres of photography.  That's why I honestly think it is such a useful course beginner's wanting to improve their photography.

The thing I would like to stress is that at no point do I use PowerPoint presentations! The tuition takes place in my home village, Greatworth in Oxfordshire. My own labrador Bally is the model for the day. Sadly, I don't trust my naughty border terrier, Milly. Look at her cheeky face!

We begin the day going through the basics of your camera controls and which are the best for shooting fast action shots. We then go through different lighting and compositional techniques using the available natural light. During the first part of the day, we get to grips with the fundamentals, the best way to use your autofocus, and how to use create simple static portraits.  We then spend the rest of the day using different lenses for different perspectives. We often get muddy trying to get fantastic action shots of Bally in the water.

My aim by the end of the day is to have you to be completely confident with your camera and also leave with some photographs that you will be really proud of.  I often say that to people that this isn't just a dog per se photography workshop but a beginner's introduction to photography with an adoring model.
