Almost all of my images are created with natural light, which has a ‘feel’ that can’t be matched by any flash or other artificial lighting systems. This allows me to shoot unobtrusively and quickly, creating genuine, documentary-style images, which capture those precious moments and tell the story of your wedding day exactly as it happened. Its not all about those beautiful tender moments though, I love to capture those comedic moments too. Some of my favourite images are the ones I could never have expected. I just have to be on my toes to capture those moments, which makes it so fun to photograph!
I like to become more a guest figure rather than a silent ninja in the corner of the room. It makes people feel more comfortable and in turn, I can get much more natural images. Many of the couples I have photographed have very kindly mentioned that it was like having a friend as their wedding photographer.
Our working relationship doesn’t end on the day – I am always available to help and advise throughout the designing of your album. I have been frequently asked to photograph so many different and exciting projects for my couples, sometimes years after the wedding.
Check out my highlight reels below to get a taste of my style and how I capture your day. As you can see, no wedding is the same and that's why I love photographing weddings!

Many of the couples I have photographed have very kindly remarked that it was like having a friend as their
wedding photographer. Our working relationship doesn’t end on the day. I am always available to help and advise throughout the designing of your album and pleased to offer all my wedding couples 15% off any future family photography.
John takes the most fantastic photographs that we will treasure forever. He was kind, supportive, putting everyone at ease and so discrete that many of our favourite photographs taken at our wedding we didn't even notice being taken. His photographs have a lovely relaxed style that really tol the story of our day - I've lost track as to the number of couples I have recommended John to since our wedding.

Yes I do! I love to travel. I've photographed all over Europe so far and would love to do more. Do get in touch to arrange a consultation so that we can discuss your requirements.
Yes. Throughout the day, I direct very little and capture events as they unfold. I am very discreet during the ceremony and always discuss with the person leading the service beforehand, what I am allowed to do and how much I can move around. I use natural light and not flash wherever possible as I like to be as unobstrusive as I can. Throughout the day I aim to blend into the background and produce “reportage” style images, however when we do the couple portraits I will have scouted out some locations and we will pose some of the shots. Some of my couples get nervous about this part but I have to stress that it is so informal and fun and tends to get the best photos of the day. I will direct you to a certain degree but usually the winning shots are created just before or after I have “posed” you, without you even knowing!
Yes I do. I completely understand why my couples want formal photographs, it's a great way of ensuring you get pictures with all the important people! I usually suggest no more than around 10 formal photographs as they can take a fair bit of time to get through. Allow around five minutes per formal photo.
Yes! I offer a full design service. I bring my luxury Graphistudio albums with me to the first consultation for you to look at. If you order shortly after the first consultation the price of the album is reduced by £100. You choose 80-100 of your favourite images from your wedding and leave the rest to me. See prices here.
I would refund your monies in this situation. The chances of me being ill are equal to the chances of the bride or groom being taken ill. We all do our best to avoid a situation like this and I will do my best to give you as much warning as possible. I have several other photographers that I work with who may be able to stand in for me.
I ask for a deposit of a third of the final package cost to secure your wedding date. This is paid at the time of booking. The remaining balance is then due one month before the wedding. Payment can be made either by cheque or internet bank transfer.
I aim to edit the photographs and send them to you in four weeks. I give you a ‘teaser slideshow‘ with 60-70 of my favourite images from the day with your first dance song as the backing track. I then put all the other images from the day up in the password protected part of your gallery and send you a John Alexander Photography USB stick with the high-resolution images in the post.
Yes please! I always work better on a full stomach. I usually take my break during the meal as people don’t like to be photographed whilst they are eating. I usually like to eat separately to sort out the rest of my gear for the next part of the day, a hot meal is always appreciated.
I usually arrive early on the wedding day and scout the ceremony location and venue before arriving with the bride. I only need 20 minutes or so to do this so it works well to do it on the day. If you are really keen for me to see the venue before the wedding day, we can always meet there for your consultation.
